Canada can catch up to global leaders by enacting a law that would establish a corporate duty on Canadian companies to prevent human rights and environmental harms. Companies would have to take steps to ensure they are respecting human rights throughout their global operations and supply chains.

Corporate due diligence

Canada can adopt a law that would require companies to conduct due diligence and publicly report on the steps taken to prevent human rights and environmental harms. Companies would have to consult with rights holders, identify risks, and stop contributing to harm throughout their global operations and supply chains.

Access to Courts

Canada can build on global momentum and pass a law that would include significant consequences for companies that cause harm and/or fail to conduct due diligence. Communities and workers who suffer harm would have access to remedy and justice because the law will help them access Canadian courts.
